Hola! Mia is going to show you how to make handmade tortillas with a twist!
Tortillas are the basic complement to any Mexican meal. If you are planning to have a Mexican dinner night why not step up your game with handmade tortillas. Sure you could just buy a pack of premade tortillas, But whats the fun in that? The traditional tortilla only has three ingredients Masa, salt, and water. It is easy to add fun colors to the tortilla. You can have the kids make their own tortillas for Taco Tuesday, I guarantee your kids will love making their own tortillas.
Tortillas are so versatile, can be made into Tacos, vegan quesadillas, burrito, chips, chilaquiles, and so much more. To make them you will need masa harina and a tortilla press, They can both be found in the ethnic food aisle of any large grocery store. Follow the instructions from the bag on how to make the masa mix. Adding color and flavor to the masa for 1cup of masa add 1tsp of any spice you like, That will add color and flavor to your tortillas. After you mix the masa with your spices start making little masa balls. I think Mia loves to make tortillas because It’s almost like playing with playdough.
EASY WAY TO USE A TORTILLA PRESS
Place the masa ball in the center of one side.
Close and push down to flatten the masa.
Open the tortilla press and remove the tortilla from the plastic sheet.
Congratulations you’ve just made a tortilla!
Time to cook the tortilla, Use a flat pan let it get hot Once it’s hot add the tortilla, let it cook for about 30 seconds on one side turn over and let it cook for about a minute on the other side, The tortilla will start to puff up.
Tortillas are also a good source of B vitamins, which support healthy nervous system. To add fun colors, Mia added spirulina, turmeric and paprika.

I wasn’t brought up in a home where we would practice yoga much less meditation. My first yoga experience was three weeks postpartum. I was looking at options to get me back to shape. My Sister invited me to a hot yoga class, I found it to be peaceful and relaxing. I’m, not a regular yogi I’ve practiced yoga on and off throughout the years, A few months ago I started meditating. My mind has been more focused and calm by practicing both together. At a young age, Mia got interested in yoga by simply looking at me now that Mia is older we do a morning yoga and meditation routines together.
Mia’s Yoga and meditation morning routine, We usually do it right after waking up at 8:00 am or after breakfast at 10:00 am.
HOW I GOT MIA TO SIT STILL FOR 3 MINUTES OF MEDITATION
First of all, if you have a toddler you already know you cant make them do anything they don’t want to. Children are the grates imitators! I try to make meditation fun, the first minute Mia works on her breathing. We accomplish this by placing all fingertips together expanding the fingertips with each breath and bringing in the fingertips together when exhaling. Imagine the fingertips to act like the lungs. Next two minutes Mia closes her eyes, I tell her a story usually about fairies in a garden. It’s almost like taking Mia on a little mind adventure.
HOW I GOT MIA INTO DOING YOGA
Find something that your kids are interested in like superheroes, the ABC’s, yoga with siblings. Mia loves animals, so most poses are about animals. There is so many fun and helpful poses you can teach your kids that will benefit them in so many ways. Mia started with 3 poses now she is doing 5 and getting better every day. Praise and encourage your kids even if they don’t get it right the first time. The point is to keep practicing and learning new poses at the same time creating a new habit.
